Anegada Desert Duel

Anegada Desert Duel
As mentioned previously, there is an active cycling club in the BVI. Many of the races take place on Tortola, Virgin Gorda and even Peter Island, but an exciting venue is occuring this weekend. The next race in the BVI Mountain Bike Club Championship is the Anegada Desert Duel, that takes place Sunday, September 13th. For those of you that have been fortunate enough to experience Anegada on your catamaran charter, you know what an unique place this coral island really is! If you have not been there, click to learn more about amazing Anegada. No other island in the BVI chain compares! The race will start and finish at Anegada Reef Hotel, with riders heading out to Cow Wreck beach, then Loblolly Beach through the Settlement and back to Anegada reef. Intermediate and junior riders will miss out the section to Loblolly and social riders will only ride to the Setting Point/Cow Wreck junction before heading back to the settlement and then turning around to head back to the finish. As there are no hills on Anegada, the race will be completely flat, however, with a mix of sand, coral and paved roads, it will sure be a knobbly ride! If you want to enjoy the race and experience Anegada for yourself but are not comfortable enough with your catamaran charter to make the crossing to Anegada, never fear. You can still be part of the fun! For $40 you can take a high speed ferry and have a delicious lunch at Anegada Reef Hotel. Speedy's Ferries will depart from Virgin Gorda at 8:30 am sharp and Trellis Bay at 9:00 am sharp- returning from Anegada at 5pm. For more details, go to http://www.bvimtbclub.com/ . This is a great opportunity to experience Anegada! -Donna
